Fall Weekends

The year Colorado's Fall has been especially gorgeous.  Maybe it's because our new neighborhood has trees everywhere!  I went on a run just around our subdivision and it was perfect, all I could think about was Halloween... and finishing my run to get home and eat chocolate (it's my motivation).  Speaking of Halloween, I am actually really excited to stay home and hand out candy.  It sounds silly, but we have only lived in apartments, so this year we will actually get trick-or-treaters!  Today I am picking up Candy and Neeko's Halloween costume.  This is one of my favorite costumes Neeko has ever had.

Hair Tutorial - Everyday Curls

After handful of requests for a hair tutorial, I finally got around gained the courage to give it a shot.  This is a fairly in depth tutorial of how I do my hair on a regular basis.  If you would like to only watch the curling part, start the video at the 5 minute mark.  I preface the curling with a basic overview of my blow drying technique and what I have to do to eliminate stubborn natural waves near the roots.  If you have any questions I did not answer in the tutorial please feel free to ask in the comments section or email me.  Hope this is helpful!

Running Rambles: Fitness Update

Happy Thursday friends!  Today I thought I would do a fitness update, to keep Running Rambles a semi-regular post.  Lately my fitness routine has included running 5 days a week with a distance ranging from 2 to 4 miles.  This week I have gone on 3 runs with a total distance of 9.2.  Today is my off day, so I will try to schedule in at lease 2 more runs this week... I am thinking Friday and Sunday.  Saturday we have a busy day, wedding planning, exploring the pumpkin patch, then dinner and a comedy show at night.  I plan to do a 3 mile run tomorrow and 4 miles on Sunday.  That will put me at a total of 16 miles for the week (I am counting Sunday as a part of this week, because I'm weird like that).

Hiking with my mom in Golden Gate state park.
Fall is my favorite season for running.
One of my favorite trails, this view is amazing!
I have been thinking about doing either a 10k or Half Marathon trail run, possibly April of next year.  It just all depends on how much training I do in the Winter.  Right now I am pretty much just running to get a workout and to be outside, I haven't looked a training schedule.  If you have any good training schedules, I would love it if you could send me links!

Heeled Boots

If you have been following my blog for a while now, you probably know that I adore boots and I have quite the collection.  But you can never have too many right?  If I was shopping these are some boots that I would be thinking about buying (obviously not all).  Every girl needs at least one pair of riding boots, heeled boots, and booties.  The over-the-knee boots are just a bonus, I feel like they are very on trend right now.  DSW, Target, and GoJane are some of my favorite places to buy boots.  I also really love hunting for cute styles at TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

Fall Essentials

Last year when Zara had this plaid blanket scarf I waited too long and it was sold out.  The only place I could find it was ebay for $80, so I told myself, it wasn't meant to be.  Than all of a sudden a handful of my favorite online boutiques had it in stock.  I contacted Leopards & Lattes and requested the scarf, placed my order and a few days later it was in my mailbox!  Probably the best customer service ever.  Now many of these boutiques have sold out of the infamous blanket scarf; but you are in luck, I saw this great dupe at Forever 21.  It's still available online, but hurry I think it will sell out quickly!

Fall Decor and DIY

Left: Target // Right: Dollar Store DIY
Fall is definitely one of my favorite seasons, I know... every 20-something girl says this.  I adore the leaves, the pumpkin flavored food (Trader Joe's macarons are my fav) and the decor.  Now that we are no longer renting I feel like I can invest a bit more time on house decor.  I bought the gold pumpkin on the left from Target and immediately had the idea to do my own mini gold pumpkin DIY project.  I bought this ugly little pumpkin at the dollar store and used Krylon Gold spray paint and voila, there you have it folks a little gold pumpkin!
 How fab, right!?!

Before and After!
I absolutely adore our new white fire place, such a simple way to update and old piece.

Have a lovely Fall day!

Fall is in the Air

As of lately we have finally had days that you can just feel Fall in the air.  In Colorado we definitely have seasons, but in the Metro area it may be 50 degrees one day and 78 degrees the next day.  So when we have the chilly days I take full advantage by layering up with my favorite vest, scarf, jacket, etc.  This vest has become a new favorite in my closet.  I was so excited when Jcrew brought it to their factory store this season, I jumped on purchasing it.  I have a feeling this is not the only appearance it will have one the blog. Oh, and if you read my post yesterday, this flannel is not the new I just bought on Monday...

40 Days: No spending

This 'No Spending Challenge' will include: All Clothing and Accessories
(Excluding for Bryan… his birthday is right around the corner)

Yesterday I went to Jcrew on my lunch break and purchased a plaid flannel (thinking to myself, you don't have that many Jcrew flannels and you can wear it casually with jeans or dress it up for work with a pencil skirt.  Since when have I dressed up a flannel for work?… never Whitney… not once!)

Start Date: October 13, 2014
End Date: November 22, 2014

Goal:  Not spend a single penny on the two major categories listed above.

Why:  First and foremost to try and save more mula and second I have more than enough of these items.  I also want to see what outfits I can create with pieces that I already have in my closet.  I have many multiples and this is probably because I love those pieces so much I decided to purchase them again – no more of this silliness!

As you can see from my rambling above, I tell myself many things when making a purchase to convince myself that yes, I need to have it.  Managing these impulses of instant gratification can be really difficult, but my theory is, if I can deal with this issue head on, then maybe I will find a positive solution.

Since Bryan and I moved into our new home as well as started planning our wedding, I have slowly started to find ways to slim down my closet.  This has been no easy task, for starters I love having a full closet of clothes that I hold fond memories of and hello who doesn’t want to have a closet like Alicia Silverstone in Clueless?  Ultimately there is absolutely no need for the amount of clothes, shoes and especially jewelry I own, even as a blogger.  I think the goal of blogging is creativity.  Bloggers like Audrey from Putting Me Together or Merrick from Merricks Art, are the most talented bloggers out there.  It’s clear they don’t spend outlandish amounts of money on clothes, accessories and purses; I don’t see Valentino or Prada.  I love that their outfits are affordable, creative, and completely wearable.  It can be difficult trying to create content on your blog while not breaking the bank, you want to keep your readers interested with the latest trends.

Back to my main point… I have been successful at decreasing my closet by parting with items I no longer use (check out my Poshmark account to see what I have let go of) but I have been struggling with slimming down my clothing and accessory expenditures.  So there you have it, the many reasons why I am going on a major shopping diet!

I plan on doing weekly updates on my spending diet… stay tuned!
Have you ever done a shopping ban?

Thanks for reading, it was a long one today.

Pink + Layers

Happy Monday ladies!  I typically don't wear a lot of pink, but I just adore this Charley sweater from Jcrew Factory.  It's beyond perfect for layering.  Not too thick that you can't tuck it into a skirt or pants.  And now it's finally getting chilly enough to layer for work, plus my work is always on the cold side; I typically don't leave the house without a blazer or cardigan.  This past weekend I started a Fall DIY project, if you follow me on Instagram you may already know what it is.  I haven't featured many DIY projects on the blog before, but I definitely want to feature this one, it's very simple and so cute!!
